PTSD
by: Katie

Our 3.5 yr old had a traumatic event at preschool which triggered an onset of tics and stims - which now has been diagnosed as SPD. So I think the trauma increased the SPD, that was mild prior and not really a big issue before the event.

SPD & Trauma
by: Anonymous

My son went through a traumatic event 2 years after he was diagnosed with SPD. He regressed and all of the work we had done for 2 years seemed to have disappeared. We started him in counseling and we increased his OT from 2 to 3 times a week. After 6 months of intensive intervention we were able to go back to OT twice a week and counseling sessions once a week. He continues to have some struggles but this is common with anyone who is given the additional diagnosis of PTSD. There is hope but it takes time, patience and love. Good luck.
