We are having difficulty with our son cursing when he feels overwhelmed.

We are having difficulty with our son cursing. We are using time out, which is effective...but on days when he is overloaded at school he started cursing at the teacher, which resulting in being sent home. He has OT breaks, protein breaks sometimes, and is allowed to have a break in the hallway at school when he feels overwhelmed. He is in 2nd grade and will turn 8 years old in July. Thanks for your thoughts in advance

son cursing

Hi, sounds like your son has extreme sensory issues and he is cursing and knows it will get him home, I notice that americans call this SPD we in UK , well i am concluding, tend to call this reduced proprioception. My 8yr old has this along with aspergers syndrome. He attends main stream school. His problem with sensory issues are over-sensitive hearing, probs with touch, light touch he says feels like punches and vice versa. Haircuts and nails cut the same. You know your child best, work out with him what,s the sensory probs and remember he doesnt know that other people feel and hear things differently. At school i asked teacher to tell james before school bell rang over few months his sensory prbs with loud noise got better. You too can request these small things that help so much. James stands inline at the end when time to start school, this saves people touching him when he doesnt know its comming. His job is to keep everyone in line. So good luck and always know you know your child best.
