Getting dressed a little easier.

by Jen Muse
(Toledo, Ohio)

I have found one technique that tends to help my little 5 year old get dressed in the morning.

Nothing feels right to him, socks, tags, pants, especially in the morning so we usually have a rough start. But I have found that if I heat his clothes in the microwave, it makes for a much easier transition. (I only use the microwave, because of it's location. A dryer would be even better.)

We also use a sticker chart and rewards, for getting dressed without a fight.

gettin dressed

One of our children likes his clothes warmed in the dryer. My daughter struggles the most and she likes to put on the socks and underwear at night also. We still struggle with the shoes. We also found that if she eats before she gets dressed that sometimes it can help her. Rough mornings we try for something very chewy or crunchy.

socks on at night

My daughter does better by putting on her socks and new underwear the night before. Her feet are really sensitive - even more so in the morning. Since we started putting them on at night things have been much easier.
