Finger biting

by carol
(michigan)

My 8 year old boy w/autism gets stressed this time of year and has started constantly biting his fingers, to the point of bleeding. Any ideas on what he could bite instead or what need he has?

Suggestion for Finger biting NEW
by: Debbie

Chewing on rubber toys could be unsafe. Do you know of what they are made? Were they made in the USA where products are held to FDA guidelines? Check out these non-toxic, medical grade chew tools at www.arktherapeutic.com. Look for the Grabber XT, Textured Grabber XT and ARK's Y-Chew XT (eXtra-Tough).

Hi Carol!!

I have a son who does the same thing only it is what ever he can find whether it be a body part or a blanket!!! The OT recommended rubber toys (found on Amazon under "sensory processing toys" I think!) that come in different shapes, sizes, etc. They work GREAT!!! There is also a fantastic website for kids/people with ADHD (I also have two older boys who have ADD and they have products for everything! Autism, ADHD, Asperger's, ADHD, etc.
Check this out: http://www.addconsults.com/store
I hope it helps! Let me know if I can help, it sure is a learning process for us moms!! Take care :)
