Mimicry
by: EngMom

Perhaps your own poor speech is having an effect on him and his learning. He is going to mimic you, and if you do not speak properly, how can you expect for him to? Additionally, yes, he will probably be mimicing the younger kids he is with.He should be in a therapeutic learning environment for his appropriate age group, not with "babies" and toddlers. Advocate for that, please.

Get a 2nd opinion
by: Beck

I would take him to another doctors for a second opinion. Higher functioning Autism Spectrum children often mimic behavior and are quit often assessed as having developmental/ emotional ages lower than their actual ages. Kids on the spectrum will also have sensory issues. Can't hurt to get a second opinion.
