SPD child with Anxiety

Hello all. I have a 6 year old that has SPD, OCD, APD and Anxiety. She has a great OT, but the process is so slow with addressing her anxiety issues. Her anxiety has escalated from what used to be primarily a fear of smoke detectors and balloons, to now a bunch of things from the air conditioning thermastat to not letting me go to the bathroom or take a shower with out leaving the door open to following me room to room. Her pediatrician referred me to a psychologist. I don't believe this will help at this stage. She is 6 and almost never talks to adults. She won't even talk to her OT whom she has beeing going to since February. Her OT said we can work on some issues in therapy by shaking things up by taking her out of her comfort zone. I spoke with my mom and we agree that psycologist is not a good idea right now because she won't share and the dr will probably just jump to conclusions about what might be her problem. Also, I spoke with OT about this and she said the problem is that if you don't have a "perfect" fit it will just create more anxiety for her.

My reason for contacting y'all is because I was wondering if anyone has had experience with anxiety issues and are there any tricks or supplements (NOT MEDS) or activities that may help her while they work on these things in OT?

Thanks.

My son had very high levels of anxiety. He started to get eye tics and bloody noses after feeling severe extremes of anxiety. He read Super Flex books with his special education teacher and he loved it. It helped him talk about his anxiety and work through his struggles. He has a long ways to go but it's been a great start.

Some people find coffee good for high energy, yoga good for relaxation and anxiety, integrated listening systems are great for motor problems auditory processing etc but cost around $1500 it is like intense o.t. and may be the solution for you... look at the reviews of all the systems you can find the i.l.s system has many programs including speech theraphy it is a long course 3-5 hrs a week at home with first stage 40hrs then memory (auditory processing) 30 hrs then possible repeat the speech 30 hrs concentration etc it has shown great improvement in MANY cases .
Good luck

me again

My daughters psychiatrist has started her on a course of antipsychotics. Within two days she was much calmer, her night mares were completely gone. By day 4 she was not feeling the impulse to touch people excessively and was finding it easier to play with friends without going too far or outragious. She missed one tablet 3 days ago and yesterday played innapropriately and had a nightmare. This medication is working for her but if this is not the route you want... I would recommend a search for natural alternatives for the treatment of each symptom.

my child has anxiety too spd apd ocd adhd
by: sam

Hello,
Your child sounds like she is very similar to me 7 yr old who suffers apd spd along with symptoms of adhd and ocd I ruled out autism early as she is very empathic and also has no issue with touch in fact she wants and seeks it out. Since trying to found out why she is having constant night mares and many social problems along with all the symptoms including fears listed above I have resigned myself to the fact it is very likely to be high functioning autism sometimes reffered to as aspergers
