SPD - OT visit frequency

by Scott L
(Appleton, WI)

Does anyone know if it is typical or not for most insurance companies, in our case, United to cover the cost or a portion thereof of OT for SPD and if so, what is typical of a 5 year old for the average number of visits per week and average cost per visit?

Thanks in advance....

Our plan (United) covers 60 visits a year of any therapy, which is very good. The cost is $100 for each visit, of course, some of that is paid for by insurance.

My opinion as an early childhood educator is that the individual needs of your child will determine how many times the ot works with your child per week. Also, there are ways to get through the red tape to get your insurance company to pay for these necessary interventions. It is all in the wording and codes used for billing the insurance company. Is there a local developmental evaluation center in your area? If so, they would have someone there who could assist you in answering these questions. Good luck!

Therapists NEW

Fortunately I live in Canada and we have a child and youth mental health agency through the provincial government in BC. My daughter was able to see a therapist about once every 2 weeks - no charge (other than our medical which is paid through my benefits) and this helped her immensely. Check with your work benefits/husband's benefits or your state or province health agencies.
